MAZATLAN, MX, July 10, 2010 — The first edition of Dorado Derby by Serena Residences started, 26 boats and 80 anglers signed up to compete for the biggest Dorado, competitors traveled from Texas, California, Colorado, Mazatlan, Culiacan, Los Mochis and Guadalajara.
Tournament began at 16:00 hours of Friday 9th with a welcome cocktail party for all fishermen’s and family at Serena Residences’ Club House. Attendees enjoyed exquisite appetizers prepared by the chef of Serena Residences.
Also 8 teams entered to the $300 additional jackpot for the biggest Dorado and to make things more exciting 6 teams did a jackpot for the biggest Tuna.
"We've got some pretty serious anglers. There are people that have come from Unite States and all over Mexico to participate. Also people that are here just to have fun and nice time with their friends”, Jonathan said.
On Saturday, July 10th, the weather looked favorable, all the 26 boats line-up eager to see start signal to go and live the adventure and thrill to have the change of winning a $10k usd in cash.
The audience was looking forward to hear news from the teams about their catches, it was about 15:00 hours when the first vessel showed up, the Sofia with a 15 lb Dorado (Mahi-Mahi) within minutes Reel Life team from Houston, TX, Juan Morales and sons presented a 27.5 LB Dorado (Mahi-Mahi).
10 minutes later all the vessels got to the private marina of Serena Residences to present their catches hooping for to be the lucky ones.
In a tight situation the Makio team as they arrived almost closing the permitted time to present their trophies, a 37LB tuna. Who were the winners for the Jackpot of the biggest tuna.
After all teams arrived, all the species caught where examined by Judges and biologist assigned by the Dorado Derby organizer.
The first edition of Dorado Derby by Serena Residences wrapped up Saturday, July 10th, with an Award ceremony in Serena Residences Club house where anglers enjoyed of a nice atmosphere with family and friends and also the fishing accessories raffle took place
The absolute winners of $10k usd and the Jackpot of $2,400 usd in cash were the Reel Team from Houston, Tx who presented a 27.5lb Dorado (Mahi-Mahi)
